At the moment we are facing many changes in the slovene educational system which demand the reformation of the educational process in student dormitories. The changes have been introduced in 1999 and many positive changes have been noticed since then. Living conditions for students are improving, and thus the model of the institutional upbringing could be introduced as an example of good practice in EU countries. We have to do more during the in-service training of teachers with regard to the changing role of the institutional they work in. There should be a strong tendency to develop teachers’ autonomy, professional growth as well as their competences.
