In this paper, using the comparative analysis , we will present the institutional network of the adult education in Croatia and Slovenia. The comparative analysis shows that Slovenia, from the very beginning of the education system reform, considered the adult education system as a part of the lifelong learning and lifelong education system, therefore developing the existing system into which the new models of formal, informal and nonformal forms of the adult education were introduced. Croatia, despite the rich tradition of adult education institutions (national and popular universities some of which existed for almost a century, adult education centres, andragogic centre, adult education schools), in the very beginning experienced the stagnation in the development and restructure of these institutions and the adult education system as a whole. Only recently, in the strategy of the education development, the adult education in the conception and modalities of performance is being treated as an obligatory part of the conception and lifelong education system.
