Modern slavery

People and Society

Modern slavery and human trafficking are an international form of organised crime which significantly affects the safety, well-being and human rights of its victims. The individuals who fall prey to human trafficking are forced into prostitution, mendicity, forced labour and involuntary military service or have their organs illegally removed. Considerable financial gain and a comparatively low degree of risk for the trafficker are typical of all of the abovementioned forms of subordination. The occurrence of human trafficking is based on one simple economic equation: supply and demand. Men, women and children are being held in cruel conditions of slavery. Unfortunately, the problem of human trafficking also exists in our country because of those willing to obtain various services which the victims are forced to offer.
