Abstract

Students who during their secondary education stay in a hall residence have a slightly different daily schedule comparing to those staying at home. In addition to school obligations they  also have to obey the rules in the residence hall (studying time, evening out…). Due to these obligations, their free time is more limited and they try to take advantage of it in numerous different ways. For some of them, free time represents just a break from the daily obligations, whereas active participation in extra-curricular activities for others. Some of the students also see it simply as time to socialize with their peers. Leisure has also other functions which can be positive or also negative. Seeing that, it requires a lot of professionals’ attention in the wise use of it among students.

The article is a summary of the master thesis and research on the leisure activities of young people in Ljubljana residence halls in 2011 where the diversity of leisure activities was observed.
